On the YouTube channel Experts Club a new interview has been released with the leading Ukrainian obstetrician-gynecologist, doctor of medical sciences Volodymyr Terekhov, devoted to the key challenges and trends in modern gynecology. The doctor, who has more than 15 years of experience, shares his observations on the state of women's health, the diagnosis and treatment of gynecological diseases, and the prospects for the development of the field in Ukraine and worldwide.
Main topics of the conversation
• Problems of late diagnosis: according to Terekhov, up to 70% of patients seek medical help only at late stages of disease. This applies to oncology as well as to inflammatory or hormonal pathologies.
• Reproductive health: particular attention is paid to the decline in fertility among young women, which is becoming widespread and is linked to lifestyle, stress and hormonal disorders.
• The role of prevention: the guest stresses that regular examinations and screenings (in particular cytology and ultrasound) are effective methods for the early detection of diseases, notably cervical and ovarian cancer.
• Development of technology: advances in minimally invasive surgery, laparoscopy and new diagnostic methods are discussed.
In Ukraine, according to the Ministry of Health and international NGOs, every third woman of reproductive age faces a gynecological disease – from fibroids to endometriosis. About 4,500 cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed every year, making it one of the most common cancers among women in the country.
Worldwide, according to the WHO, gynecological pathologies are found in every second woman over the age of 30. Cervical cancer claims more than 300,000 lives every year, despite the availability of preventive measures – vaccination and screening. Endometriosis affects up to 10% of women of reproductive age, and infertility affects one in seven couples.
Dr. Volodymyr Terekhov notes that the future of gynecology lies in the integration of new technologies, a multidisciplinary approach, patient education and the digitalization of medical care. However, all this requires investment, reforms and support from the state.
