On May 28, 2024, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Ukraine held a solemn reception in Kyiv on the occasion of the 106th anniversary of the founding of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
It has been 106 years since the creation, on May 28, 1918, of the first democratic, law-based and secular state in the Muslim east – the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR), whose foundation was laid by Mammad Amin Rasulzade.

In the tense and difficult socio-political situation, the ADR existed for only 23 months. The independent Republic of Azerbaijan was occupied by the Bolsheviks, and only after the collapse of the USSR did Azerbaijan gain its independence for the second time. The Republic of Azerbaijan, which restored its state independence on October 18, 1991 by a corresponding constitutional act, proclaiming itself the legal successor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, adopted its state symbols, including the state flag, the national anthem and the coat of arms.
Honored guests attended the solemn event on the occasion of the holiday: foreign diplomats, representatives of the leadership of public authorities, Islamic religious figures, members of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Ukraine, cultural figures and educators.
The extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Ukraine, H.E. Seymur Mardaliyev, addressed all those present with a welcoming speech.

In his speech the Ambassador dwelt on the history and the present day of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
“Today, under the leadership of president Ilham Aliyev, our country is bringing to life the aspirations and ideals of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. Azerbaijan is going through the most grandiose and most successful period in its ancient history and has never been as strong as it is now,” the diplomat stated.
The Ambassador also noted that Azerbaijan, since the very start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, was one of the first countries to begin providing humanitarian aid and is ready to continue providing this aid in the future.
On behalf of the Ukrainian government, congratulations were expressed by Ukraine’s deputy minister of foreign affairs, Yevhen Perebyinis.
Yevhen Perebyinis expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for its consistent political, humanitarian and military support of Ukraine and expressed hope for further strengthening of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Azerbaijan were established on February 6, 1992. The Embassy of Ukraine in Azerbaijan has operated since May 5, 1996, and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Ukraine was opened on March 12, 1997.
