The historic event that gave rise to the holiday took place during the French Revolution, in 1789. The insurgent Parisians stormed the fortress-prison of the Bastille, which was regarded as a symbol of monarchical despotism, definitively ending the king's power in France.
The events brought about by the revolution in France influenced political processes throughout the world; it was the French Revolution that began the formation of democratic values.

The Ambassador of France to Ukraine, Gaël Veyssière, invited the deputy minister of health of Ukraine, Ms. Maria Karchevych, to the stage to present a certificate for UAH 2 million for power-generating and radiographic equipment for hospitals of the Chernihiv region, over whose reconstruction France took patronage within the framework of the Luhansk process.
