The Kyiv Zoo held the ceremonial opening of a children's slide – a gift from the Embassy of Vietnam in Ukraine.

On May 16, 2024, a ceremony was held at the Kyiv Zoo to open a children's slide in the form of the sculpture “Turtle”, which embodies the symbol of Vietnam's capital – Hanoi. This project is the work of both Vietnamese and Ukrainian designers. The Ukrainian creators made it in the national style of Vietnam.

The ceremonial opening was attended by distinguished guests – representatives of diplomatic missions of foreign states accredited in Ukraine, senior parliament officials, members of the Vietnamese community, soldiers and officers who took part in combat operations in Vietnam, educators and cultural figures.

The guests were welcomed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, Dr. Nguyen Hoan Thanh.

“We are glad about the ceremonial opening of the new ‘children's slide’ at the Kyiv Zoo. It will be a place where children can have fun at the zoo with their parents. In wartime, the zoo is a place where people can regain their balance after sirens and explosions. The Embassy of Vietnam in Ukraine is very proud to have completed a modest project in cooperation with our Ukrainian friends to help the residents of Kyiv get through today's difficult time,” the ambassador said.

As it turned out, the project had been conceived even before the active hostilities.
“The project grew out of my meeting with the mayor of Kyiv before the war. At that time we were just thinking about doing something to demonstrate the friendship between Hanoi and Kyiv. Today we are happy that, after some time, this idea has become reality. The symbol of Vietnam's capital – Hanoi – is present in public for the first time, in the very heart of Ukraine's capital – Kyiv. It is also a symbol of friendship between Vietnam and Ukraine.

Our two countries have gone through decades of friendly relations and mutual assistance, both in wartime and in building each country's homeland. The establishment of this symbol of friendship is at once a confirmation of our cooperation and a commitment that together we will develop Vietnamese-Ukrainian relations,” added the Ambassador of Vietnam to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, Nguyen Hoan Thanh.

Finally, the Ambassador thanked Mr. Kyrylo Trantin, general director of the Kyiv Zoo, for the cooperation and support of this project, as well as the two sponsoring companies: “Eurofood Service” and “Svietprynt.”

After the official part of the event, there was a performance by the pupils of the People's Artistic Choreographic Ensemble “Veselka” of the Vasylkiv Center of Children's and Youth Creativity.

Vietnam recognized an independent Ukraine on December 27, 1991. On January 23, 1992, diplomatic relations were formalized between the countries. In the same year the Embassy of Vietnam in Ukraine opened, and the Embassy of Ukraine in Vietnam was also opened.
