Veterans and Volunteers Invited to Free Training on Participation in Community Life

Applications are now open for the project “We Act in the Community” by the NGO “Zvytiazhtsi”. More than 100 veterans and volunteers will be able to take online training on local self-government and tools of public participation.

As part of the project, participants will learn how decisions are made in a community, what a local budget consists of, where to look for the information they need and how to formulate well-reasoned proposals. They will be able to use the knowledge and support they gain to implement specific changes — in particular, improving veterans' support programmes or taking residents' needs into account when public spaces are updated.

The online training will consist of an introductory meeting and 15 sessions with practical assignments. Participants will learn how local self-government bodies work, how a budget is formed, how public procurement is conducted and how open data is used. They will learn to prepare information requests, appeals and proposals and to build constructive interaction with local authorities. Recordings of the sessions and learning materials will be available to participants.

In addition, a three-day offline bootcamp and subsequent mentoring support in working on their own initiatives will be organised for 40 selected participants. The support will include individual and group consultations and feedback while working on the initiatives. Participation is free of charge. Applications can be submitted until 21:00 on 30 November.
