On June 18 of this year, the President of Uzbekistan reviewed the progress of construction of the new Tashkent East airport — one of the country’s strategic infrastructure projects.
Construction on the site of a former military airfield began in 2017.
The future airport is positioned as a transport hub for the capital and for New Tashkent, which is under construction. Its main areas of activity will be hosting official visits and business trips by foreign investors. Its opening is expected to stimulate the development of the tourism sector in the Tashkent region.
According to the presented master plan, the total area of the new airport will be 561 hectares. The passenger terminal will handle up to 100 people per hour. The airfield apron will be able to accommodate 23 double-deck Boeing-747 aircraft at the same time.
The first stage of work, which included renovating the 4-kilometer runway, was completed in 2023.
The airfield is capable of receiving aircraft of all classes, including the heaviest.
Under way construction of two terminals — for receiving official delegations and for business aviation, as well as an apron and hangars for aircraft maintenance. The airport will be equipped with modern radio-technical and meteorological equipment of ICAO Category III-A. It will become the first air hub in Central Asia with Category III-A under ICAO standards — this will make it possible to receive flights even in fog and zero visibility.
The renewal of Tashkent East is aimed at creating a modern, convenient and safe air hub capable of relieving the capital’s main international airport and raising the overall level of air connectivity.
Thanks to its advantageous location, Tashkent East will be able to reduce the load on the capital’s main international airport and increase the throughput capacity of the country’s entire aviation infrastructure.
