Ukraine is catching up with the world leaders in frozen raspberry exports – Serbia and Poland

According to EastFruit analysts, in the 2024/25 season Ukraine continues to actively catch up with the world leaders in frozen raspberry exports, which remain Serbia and Poland. However, to maintain its leading position, Poland is increasingly dependent on re-exports of products, mostly of Ukrainian origin.

During the first three months of the season, from July through September inclusive, Ukraine exported more than 28 thousand tonnes of frozen raspberries and blackberries, which is a new record for this period. Exports thus grew by 36% compared with the same period last year and by 45% compared with 2022. It is noteworthy that the growth in exports is taking place against the background of numerous reports from farmers about a decline in the raspberry harvest in 2024.

“Even though Poland remains the main sales market for frozen raspberries from Ukraine, its share of total exports continues to decline. Ukraine is gradually beginning to enter, with frozen raspberries, the markets traditional for Poland directly, such as Germany and France. For example, this season Germany's market share in exports of frozen raspberries from Ukraine already exceeds 20%,” says Andrii Yarmak, an economist in the FAO's investment department.

Among the main sales markets for Ukrainian raspberries at the start of the season are also Czechia, Lithuania, Austria, Belgium and Italy. In addition, in the new season the first shipments of Ukrainian frozen raspberries have already been sent to such important and promising sales markets as the USA and Canada.
According to the analysts, even Serbia – the world leader in raspberry exports – purchased a large batch of products in Ukraine in September 2024, apparently for re-export.
