May 18, 2024 at the National Scientific Center “V. Ye. Tairov Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking” celebrations will be held on the occasion of Odeskyi Chornyi grape variety day.

In accordance with the registered resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of 29.05.2023 No. 9334, initiated by UKRSADVYNPROM and submitted on the legislative initiative of People's Deputies of Ukraine O. V. Haidu and A. O. Chornomorov for the popularization of Ukrainian grape varieties of domestic breeding, the identification of Ukrainian winemaking, and the development of the viticulture and winemaking complex as a whole.

Wines from Odeskyi Chornyi were recognized as a calling card at the international project Odesa Wine Week in 2021. This is because this very variety is used to produce high-quality dry red wines with a fresh, soft, light taste and refined notes of chocolate and prunes.

The event will be attended by the the chair of the Verkhovna Rada committee on agrarian and land policy Oleksandr Haidu, acting minister of agrarian policy and food of Ukraine Taras Vysotskyi, and the leadership of the Odesa regional state administration and the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine.

The event program includes a scientific conference that will address the history of grape breeding in Ukraine and discuss problematic issues of the viticulture and winemaking industry and the legislative framework.

A professional competition of wines made from the Odeskyi Chornyi grape variety will be held, to be judged by scientists of the institution where this variety was created in 1948 and where the variety's genetic depository is located.

There will also be an exhibition of wine by winemakers of the Black Sea region.

We invite representatives of the winemaking community, producers of goods for the winemaking industry, and connoisseurs of Ukrainian wine to join the event.

The head of the public union UKRSADVYNPROM is Volodymyr Pechko.
